What location actually changes
Where a rotation happens affects licensure, travel, scheduling, and how many preceptors can take you.
Search radius
You set how far you will travel, and matching respects it. Widening the radius is the single most effective change when a search returns nothing — a rotation 40 miles out is often the difference between placed and not.
State licensure
Your preceptor must be licensed in the state where the rotation happens, and your programme may require it to be the state where you intend to practise. Both are applied during matching, not discovered at approval.
Time zones
Shifts are stored as local times against the site's own time zone. A 07:00 start is 07:00 at the site, whatever device you check it on and wherever you are.
Telehealth and hybrid
Some rotations run partly or wholly by telehealth, which widens your options considerably. Whether it counts toward your requirements is your school's call, and it is recorded on your request so matching honours it.
Rural and underserved areas
Placements outside metropolitan areas often have more availability and fewer competing students, but longer onboarding lead times. If you can travel, say so — it materially changes what we can find.
Competition in dense metros
The busiest cities have the most preceptors and the most students chasing them. Requesting early matters more there than anywhere else.
Why the map stops at the state line
There is a real trade-off here, and we would rather explain it than quietly show less.
What we deliberately do not publish
- The name or address of any clinical site hosting students
- Which organisation a given preceptor works for
- A preceptor's name, contact details, or likeness
- City-level counts, which identify a single-preceptor practice as surely as an address would

Location questions
Does this map show every preceptor you have?
It shows every preceptor currently listed publicly — verified, with unexpired credentials and an authorized site. It changes as preceptors are verified and as rotations fill, so it is a snapshot rather than a permanent footprint.
Why do you show the state but not the clinical site?
Because the site is our partner's information, not ours to publish. Listing sites by name or address would expose which organisations host students and, at a practice with a single preceptor, effectively identify that person. Site details are released to a student after mutual acceptance.
My state has nothing listed. Does that mean you cannot place me?
Not necessarily. The map shows preceptors listed publicly right now; it does not show preceptors mid-verification, nor does it account for a radius that crosses a state line. Create a request and you will get a real answer for your dates and area.
Can I do a rotation in a different state from my school?
Often yes, but it depends on your programme's rules and on state licensure. Your school's placement rules are applied to your request, so a cross-state placement your programme would not accept is filtered out before you see it.
How far should I be willing to travel?
There is no right answer, but the trade-off is real: a wider radius means more candidates and a longer commute for the length of the rotation. Set it honestly — matching against a radius you will not actually drive wastes everyone's time.
