Common questions
Does Preceptor Cove guarantee I will get a placement?
No. We coordinate the process and only charge in stages as it progresses, but no platform can promise a placement — a preceptor has to agree to take you and your school has to approve the site. If we cannot place you, our refund terms are published in full on the pricing page.
Is this allowed by my school?
Schools differ. Some place students directly, some allow students to find their own preceptor with approval, and some prohibit paid placement services outright. School approval is a required step in our process, not an afterthought, so a placement cannot proceed without it. Check your program's policy before you start.
Who verifies the preceptors?
We verify licensure and credential documentation for every preceptor before they can accept a placement, and we verify the clinical site organization separately. Verification covers credentials and site agreements — it is not an assessment of teaching quality.
When do I pay?
In three stages tied to real progress: part when you and the preceptor both accept, part when your paperwork is complete, and part when your school approves. You are not charged the full amount up front.
How is my preceptor match ranked?
Matches are ranked on specialty fit, distance, availability, and cost against what your program requires, not on an unexplained score. You always see the reasoning behind a match before you accept it.
Can I browse preceptors before creating an account?
You can see a sample of verified preceptors on our homepage and a general count of matches for your criteria. Full profiles, availability, and the ability to request a placement require a free account.
What happens if my placement falls through?
If a preceptor withdraws or a site loses verification before your start date, we work to rematch you and our staged payment terms mean you are not out the full cost of an unfinished placement.
Do you support every NP specialty?
We support family practice, adult-gerontology (primary and acute care), psychiatric-mental health, pediatrics, women's health, and neonatal, among others. If you do not see your specialty listed, contact us before you start a search.
